Paediatric Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (PIASTM) is a therapeutic technique that uses specific “Accel IASTM Tool – Accelerate Healing” on children to promote mobilization of restricted tissue to increase flexibility, to increase range of motion, to reduce contractures as well as and for a management for tactile defensiveness in children diagnosed with cerebral palsy.
This technique is specifically designed by world renowned: Kanu Kaushik, Paediatric Physiotherapist and he has been teaching this technique to Physiotherapists, Occupational therapists and Rehab Physicians from various countries under Kinesio Prehab Institute.
#PIASTM is used for children with #cerebralpalsy in the same way Botox is used; it helps in managing the spasticity in the overactive muscles and in reducing Contracture from day 1 of the PIASTM therapy hence improving flexibility in Children with Cerebral Palsy.
Although Cerebral Palsy in children is caused by a brain injury effecting gross and fine motor functions. Spasticity is the most common symptom observed following upper motor neuron syndrome causing increased muscle tone and muscle tightness, limiting movement and joint mobility. Tight muscles cause decreased range of motion and limited joint mobility.
Through various researches, contractures and spasticity seen clinically correspond to changes in muscle sarcomere length, fiber type, ECM concentration, fiber and fiber bundle stiffness, and even stem cell numbers.
Hence, PIASTM THERAPY Provides Better Results In Managing Contractures and Spasticity.
Benefits of PIASTM Therapy Are:
- It Helps in Improving Nerve conduction
- It Helps in Improving proprioception
- It Helps in Improving fluid circulation
- It Helps in Improving Tissue healing and repair
- It Helps in Managing muscle tone (Hypertonic / Hypotonic)
- It Helps in Improving in range of motion
- It Helps in Improving Flexibility
- It Helps in Improving Tissue function and body balance

Hamstrings so tight that knees are bent, stretching no longer helping. And some crisscross lower legs.
