WHAT A PHYSIOTHERAPIST CAN DO TO PREVENT CORONA VIRUS DISEASE ?

As we know that there is no vaccine to prevent corona virus disease and the best way to avoid getting it is to keep away from this virus.

We as a physiotherapists, are not stepping back during this major outbreak of corona virus all over the world.

Noble Profession Comes With Noble Responsibilities Too

Let’s join together and follow few steps to keep this virus away !

First Step Should Start By Keeping Our self Safe From The Disease :

  • Hand Hygiene : Clean your hands with soap & water or alcohol based hand rubs
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose & mouth with unwashed hands
  • Keep safe distance & avoid close contact with anyone with cold or flu like symptoms.
  • Usage of face mask

Second Step To Keep Patients Safe From The Disease :

  • Hand Hygiene The World Health Organization’s (WHO) 5 Stages for Hand Hygiene is applicable everywhere :
  1. Before touching a patient.
  2. Before clean/aseptic procedures.
  3. After body fluid exposure/risk.
  4. After touching a patient.
  5. After touching patient surroundings.
  • Change sheets and towels, so a client will always have fresh clean sheets and towels.
  • Wiping therapy table/chair/equipment with an antibacterial cloth between clients.
  • Clean & disinfect frequently touched surfaces like phones, desks, switches, sinks, etc.
  • Waste management : Make sure a policy on waste management is familiar to all staff. This includes ensuring that contaminated waste is disposed of correctly. Gloves must be worn when handling waste and hand washing is a must after touching contaminated waste or waste and fluids. Disposing used tissues, gloves and dry needles after therapy in the right way.
  • Avoid group therapy if possible
